The Very Good Case For Journaling

Having PTSD your mind can be a very loud place, you can feel disconnected from your body, and your emotions can feel like you live on a constant rollercoaster.

To reclaim your sanity, and connection to yourself, there are few things that can help you heal better than journaling. Putting your thoughts on paper can remove them from the replay loop in your head. Writing what you are feeling makes your emotions more clear to you which in turn makes it easier for you to communicate your needs and feelings to the people in your life.

At this point it is an undeniable fact that journaling will help you in your healing journey. I could list countless studies that empasize the health benefits of writing down your thoughts and feelings.

Journaling is so healing for you that health insurance companies are even trying to get their clients to start a journaling practice.

When you have PTSD your stress levels are very high, your emotions are compolex, and you need growth in order to create a better life for yourself. You have the ability to create a beautiful life for yourself and it can start with the baby step of just understanding yourself better.

Journaling As A History And A Mirror

Going back to previous journal entries from just a year ago, I can see the miles of progress I have made in regards to my self awareness, emotional expression, and the deep peace that keeps me grounded now.

I began journaling when I was very young. Television shows like Clarissa Explains is All, and Moesha (I am serioulsy aging myself) where the main charicters began the episode by writing in their journal, they were big inspirations for me. I got my first journal when I was about 8 years old and it's been a life time friendship ever since.

How Journaling Has Helped Me

My journals hold my rage, love, joy, fears, and dreams. When I am struggling to make sense of myself, I can write what I am feeling and thinking and read it back to myself which, has been very helpful. My journal has become my friend. We have literally spent over 30 years together and I can honestly tell you it is becuase of this healthy coping skill that I have made it this far. There some pages of my journals where I wrote like I would never write again but, just the act of writing that is what made me reach out for help in my darkest days.
