The moment my eyes pop open, I grab my earbuds and turn on music that makes me feel hopeful. I made a whole playlist on Spotify of feel good tunes.
I lay there and soak up the good tunes for about three songs, then I meditate. for a minimum of 10 minutes per day.
If you have never meditated before, see the post on how to meditate for instructions.
Then I grab my journal and write three things I am honestly grateful for. Make sure you are writing for you, and not an imaginary audiance. You should be the only person who reads your journal so you can be sincerely authentic.
Sometimes what I am grateful for is very basic like, hot running water, or how soft my sheets feel. Other times it's bigger things like family and my health.
Whatever it is, you have to be honest with yourself about what really matters to you and then you allow yourself to really feel that gratitude. Soak in it and enjoy that moment of feeling good. It can be a rare luxury for those with PTSD.
